Tigers enter crucial series; Big ‘season test’

Bengal Tiger 1968 & '84Call me crazy, but, it feels like the Tigers are going to win the Central Division. I don’t see the Twins coming on strong the last 40+ games to capture the lead like the normally do. The Sox kind of stink like dirty laundry and there is no way KC will do anything, either.  It also doesn’t feel like the Indians will gain ground on our Boys of Summer, as well.

Don’t believe me? Well we will see how the rest of the season my go as the Tigers enter a three game crucial series against second place Cleveland. The Tigers could widen their 4 game lead in the Central or they could buckle and let their lead slip. I am thinking that the Tigers will win the series 2 games to 1. This would help the Tigers because, obviously it will widen their lead by a game, but it would also lessen the naysayers who think the Tigers will do their late season choking.

The Tigers aren’t set up to choke this year. They should have the Cy Young winner in Verlander, which is their ace in the whole, but I have also seen good signs from other areas, too. The bullpen was great during the KC series, and our hitting has remained stable, despite a few players slumping at the moment. Most importantly, this team is not complacent. Recent shakeups going through the trade deadline have proven to the players and fans that management will not settle for anything less than winning. This has had a positive aspect on the team because it seems to have sent a message to everyone. It’s not like this has created fear and an uprising, but, rather has served to help get everyone on the same page in a professional manner. It feels like the Tigers strengthened,  shifted gears and  all want to sacrifice for the greater good: to win.

The Tigers also have good starting pitching. Verlander, Sherzer and Porcello all can win. Those three alone could win three games in a series, helping the team get deeper into a series and possibly win.  We have Avila, is still hitting in the mid .280’s and getting on base. This helps strengthen the lower part of the order. Victor Martinez is another key we did not posses in the past. His above .300 average, HR power, and excellent 2 strike hitting help our big gun, Cabrera, fulfill his destiny as a legendary Tigers slugger.

The Tigers have many things going for them down the stretch, as I have stated. But mostly, to me, it FEELS like a great summer to enjoy baseball and watch the Tigers make the playoffs.

About MotorCitySportsGuru

Thank You very much for taking the time to stop by and read my commentary on professional and college sports here in our great state of Michigan. We have such a storied history and rich tradition of both professional and college sports, that I am sure to have many journal entries! My hope is that you find each entry well reasoned, well researched, well written, and from the heart. You may not always agree with my analysis, but I hope my commentary is discussed frequently around the water cooler, while amongst family and friends and even while playing Euchre, eh! Loyalty. Passion. History. I have been following Detroit and local college sports with enthusiasm for over 30 years! I have watched our teams triumph, fall, rebuild and hold us captive as we have rooted for them to win the big game. Well, in the Lion's case, just ONE game! I have seen our beloved players come and go and come back again for round two. Players like Gibby, DMac, Big Ben, Dominik Hasek and Dan Petry rank in that category. I have watched our state groom successful high school  like Magic Johnson, CWebb,  Mike Modano, Justin Abdelkader, Brian Rafalski and Tim Thomas. We have also produced successful college athletes such as  Tom Brady, Charles Woodson, Desmond Howard, Andre Rison, and Rod Brind'Amor, to name just a few. The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat have touched and shaped my life!  I have had the pleasure of  seeing this region host a Super Bowl, World Series, and an All Star Game. I have seen Michigan win National Championships in football, hockey and basketball. I watched as Izzo and Michigan State won a National Title in basketball. I have seen the Tigers win a World Series and go to another one. Our Bad Boys have won three World Championships while appearing at five. I got the esteemed pleasure of watching the greatest running back  in Barry Sanders turn on a dime week in and week out for a decade.  I love my teams and I am happy to have created this outlet to share my thoughts and analyzations with you. Interactive and Engaging Please, feel free to visit my journals frequently. I am just starting this site and will continue to look for new and exciting ways to improve upon it. I plan on engaging my readers and offering a high level of interactivity to help you keep coming back for more commentary.
